Hutter Coupling Expandable Hole Alignment Pins are a time saving outage tool which enables faster coupling bolt installation and removal without galling. They enable the user to perfectly align the centerlines of mating coupling bolt holes prior to bolt insertion during re-assembly. They also hold the coupling halves in alignment during coupling bolt removal. They work great on all existing turbine couplings. They work equally well on “fair” couplings and those couplings that are aligned with intentional offset and angularity.

TOOL DESCRIPTION
You receive a set of 2 pins per each coupling. Each pin consists of a steel tapered OD pin core, a steel tapered ID sleeve, and a mechanical mechanism that draws the two tapers together. When installed, the pins slide loosely into 2 mating coupling holes because they are approximately 0.010” smaller in diameter than the actual finished hole size. When tightened, they each expand the full 0.10” and become an interference fit (similar to a hydraulic coupling bolt but to a much greater degree of expansion). The pins bring the coupling halves into instant alignment. This allows the user to easily slide all but 2 of the permanent coupling bolts or hydraulic sleeves into the remaining empty holes by hand. When this is done, the expandable pins are then removed by a mechanism that breaks the tapers free quickly and easily.  The pins then slide out of the hole and are replaced with permanent bolts. During disassembly, the pins hold the coupling halves in alignment until the permanent bolt are removed.

DIFFERENTIAL RUNOUT AND COUPLING CONCENTRICITY CORRECTIONS
Pins restore the same differential runout and coupling concentricity as when the coupling was originally line bored. Pins are manufactured to fit the exact coupling holes sizes provided by the customer.
